## Project Overview
This project analyses four key health indicators for Nigeria using
WHO World Health Statistics data spanning 2000–2019. As a health
educator turned data analyst, I chose these indicators because they
represent the most critical public health challenges Nigeria faces —
and because the data tells a story of real progress alongside
serious remaining gaps.
**The four indicators analysed:**

### What the data shows
**1. Life Expectancy** has risen by 9 full years between 2000 and
2019 — from 53.6 to 62.6 years. This is meaningful progress,
though still 10+ years below the global average of ~73 years.
**2. Infant Mortality** dropped 32.5% over two decades — from 110
to 74.2 deaths per 1,000 live births. Significant improvement,
but Nigeria's rate remains nearly 3x the global average of ~28.
**3. Maternal Mortality** fell from 1,200 to 917 per 100,000 live
births. Despite the improvement, Nigeria remains one of the
highest globally. Every Nigerian woman faces approximately a
1-in-100 lifetime risk of maternal death.
**4. Malaria Incidence** declined 35.8% — largely attributed to
international intervention programmes including bed net
distribution and antimalarial t …
