A solar-powered, anti-theft IoT node designed to secure Nigeria's energy infrastructure. The AVS uses Edge Computing (FFT) and Multi-Sensor Fusion to detect pipeline vandalism and predict industrial machinery failure in real-time. Project: Autonomous Acoustic-Vibration Sentry (AVS) Brief Description: The Autonomous Acoustic-Vibration Sentry (AVS) is a solar-powered, retrofittable IoT node designed to secure Nigeria’s critical energy infrastructure. Current monitoring solutions for pipelines and power machinery are either prohibitively expensive (fiber-optic distributed sensing) or inefficient (manual patrols). The AVS bridges this gap by combining rugged "raw engineering" hardware with advanced software logic. Physically, the device is a reinforced, anti-theft unit engineered to clamp securely onto pipelines or industrial generators. It utilizes Multi-Sensor Fusion, integrating a piezoelectric sensor for physical vibration, a digital microphone for acoustic emissions, and a thermal probe for overheating detection. The core innovation lies in its Edge Computing capability. Unlike basic alarms that trigger false positives from random environmental noise (like heavy rain or traffic), the AVS runs a Python-based Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm locally. This allows it to mathematically distinguish between benign background vibrations and specific "threat signatures"—such as the high-frequency screech of a hacksaw, the rhythmic digging of vandals, or the specific grinding of a failing generator bearing. Self-sustained by solar power and communicating via GSM/SMS, the AVS offers a scalable, dual-purpose solution: providing real-time security alerts for vandalism while simultaneously offering Predictive Maintenance data to prevent costly machinery failure. Impact & Outcome The primary impact is a drastic reduction in operational losses for Nigeria’s energy sector. By detecting vandalism attempts (digging/cutting) in real-time, the AVS enables security intervention before a pipeline is breached, preventing costly crude theft and devastating environmental oil spills. Operationally, the device shifts the industry from expensive "reactive repair" to "predictive maintenance." By identifying e …
