The map was built from qualitative fieldwork across multiple Kenyan counties and translates stakeholder-generated evidence into a structured, queryable network of behaviors, influences, and actors. The tool is designed to support researchers, government planners, and civil society organisations in understanding **why citizens engage (or disengage)** with civic processes — and where interventions are most likely to shift system dynamics. --- ## Live Application > **Launch the interactive map →** The app allows users to: - Explore the full network of civic behaviors and influences interactively - Filter by actor type (Citizen, Local Government Official, Media, CSO, Religious Leader) - Filter by behavioral journey stage (Receive Information, Share Information, Take Action, Respond) - View influence strength, direction (positive / negative / mixed), and frequency - Browse the full glossary of behavioral constructs and system themes - Export filtered data for downstream analysis --- ## Theoretical Framework The map is grounded in two established behavioral science frameworks: **COM-B (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation → Behavior)** Each influence in the network is coded by whether it operates through psychological or physical capability, social or physical opportunity, or reflective or automatic motivation. This allows structured diagnosis of *why* a behavior occurs or fails to occur. **Socio-Ecological Model (SEM)** Influences are further classified by the level at which they operate — individual, social, or structural — enabling analysis of where system-level versus individual-level interventions are most warranted. --- …
