NorthCare AI is an offline-first health support platform built for frontline workers in Northern Ghana, combining on-device voice AI, nutrition screening, smart referrals, local-language support, and community USSD access to make maternal and child care more accessible where connectivity is limited. # NorthCare AI **Smarter care. Stronger communities.** In Northern Ghana, care does not wait for perfect conditions. A health worker may be visiting a mother in a community with weak internet, screening a child for malnutrition, or following up on a referral far from a major facility. In those moments, a lost connection should never mean lost information, delayed action, or missed care. That is why we built NorthCare AI — an Android-first, offline first health platform designed around the realities of frontline care. It supports community health nurses, CHPS officers, midwives, nutrition officers, and other authorised health workers with tools they can actually use in the field. Client records stay available on the device, Voice-to-Care turns spoken observations into structured notes using on-device AI, nutrition assessments support MUAC and growth monitoring, danger-sign screening helps workers identify concerns, and secure QR Referral Passports help carry referral information between facilities. There are also reminders, follow-up tools, and an offline Ask NorthCare assistant - all designed to keep working even when the internet does not. But we also asked a bigger question: what about the people who do not have smartphones at all? That led to NorthCare Reach. Through USSD, a caregiver with a basic phone can request support for pregnancy, newborn care, child health, nutrition, CHPS follow-up, or emergency guidance. The goal is simple: access to care should not depend on owning an expensive phone or having mobile data. NorthCare AI is therefore more than an AI feature inside a health app. It is our attempt to connect the whole journey of community care — from the caregiver, to the frontline worker, to screening, referral, follow-up, and continued support — while keeping the technology practical, responsible, and usable in low-connectivity settings. Built for the **UNICEF StartUp Lab — AI for Nurturing Care Hackathon** (UNICEF · MEST Africa · HOPin Academy). …
