Identified a spike in 2017 after a 9-year decline, with DR congo as the most affected country. Applied trend analysis , population segmentation and pivot charts to draw actionable health insights. ## Key Insights - 2017 had the highest reported malaria cases (128M), despite a prior downward trend from 2008–2016. - Democratic Republic of Congo recorded the most cases overall. - Liberia led in child anti-malaria drug distribution, followed by Uganda and Tanzania. - South Sudan had the highest rural population, while Sao Tome & Principe topped urban population metrics. - Rural population growth was consistently higher than urban growth across all years. - Countries with higher urbanization reported lower malaria incidence, suggesting a protective effect. - Major malaria burden lies in rural, less urbanized regions with limited healthcare access. ## OBSERVATIONS - The 2017 spike in malaria cases suggests either resurgence of transmission, data quality improvements, or reduced effectiveness in interventions. - Countries with higher rural populations (e.g. South Sudan, Burundi) face greater challenges in malaria control due to limited healthcare infrastructure and accessibility. - The top 5 countries distributing anti-malaria drugs to children account for a significant share of child-focused interventions, but not all are among the most affected, suggesting possible inequities or gaps in targeting. - Despite urbanization, rural population growth remains dominant, implying sustained need for rural-targeted interventions. - Urbanized nations like Gabon and Libya report relatively lower malaria incidence, reinforcing the correlation between urbanization and lower malaria risk due to better sanitation, housing, and healthcare. ## Recommendations 1. Investigate the 2017 Spike Conduct further root cause analysis for the surge in 2017 cases. Evalua …
