Africa road infrastructure dashboard showing paved roads, road length, and regional comparisons. # Africa Road Infrastructure Analysis Open Government Africa — FRST Dataset Dashboard Overview This project presents an exploratory data analysis of road infrastructure across multiple African countries using the FRST dataset, a large-scale road network dataset derived from OpenStreetMap and machine learning models. The objective of this analysis is to understand road distribution, accessibility, and infrastructure disparities across African regions and countries. This dashboard highlights: Total road length by country Paved vs. unpaved road distribution Top and bottom countries by road infrastructure Regional comparisons across Africa Share of total road infrastructure Road accessibility and infrastructure gaps # Data Source For this analysis, I used the FRST dataset, which is based on OpenStreetMap and machine learning models to estimate road networks across countries. This type of data is highly valuable for spatial and exploratory analysis, as it captures: Formal roads Informal roads Residential streets Rural access roads Secondary transportation networks This provides a broader view of accessibility and infrastructure beyond official datasets. However, it is important to note that this dataset may not fully align with official statistics due to differences in mapping coverage and methodology. -For example: In my analysis, Egypt appears to have a larger road network than Nigeria. However, this likely reflects higher mapping density and urban coverage rather than actual infrastructure superiority.
