# Spatial Analysis of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) 🌊
## Overview
This project provides a comprehensive spatial analysis of the **Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)** using Remote Sensing and GIS techniques. The study monitors environmental changes, water surface area, and vegetation health during various filling stages (2019-2024).
## Key Features 🛰️
* **Satellite Imagery:** Landsat 8 & Sentinel-2 data.
* **Spectral Indices:** NDVI (Vegetation),and NDWI (Water).
* **Tools:** Google Earth Engine (GEE) for processing & ArcGIS Pro for visualization.
## Detailed Results & Findings (2019 - 2024) 📊
The study compared the environmental state before filling (**2019**) and after filling (**2024**):
* **🌿 Vegetation (NDVI):** Mean index improved from **0.31** to **0.38** (+22%). While some areas were flooded, the remaining riparian vegetation became denser.
* **💧 Water Surface (NDWI):** Maximum water index rose from **0.64** to **0.81** (+26%), confirming significant reservoir expansion.
* **🏁 Conclusion:** The reservoir caused a dual transformation: loss of terrestrial cover in flooded zones, but improved vegetation health in the surrounding areas.
