Code for the "Enabling conditions for alternative livelihoods and community perspective on successful project delivery around Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda". # Enabling Conditions for Alternative Livelihood Programs The following scripts recreate analyses used in the upcoming article _"Enabling conditions for alternative livelihoods and community perspective on successful project delivery around Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda"_. Alternative livelihood projects (ALPs) have become a central strategy for integrating biodiversity conservation with community development around protected areas in Africa. Despite their widespread implementation, there remains a limited understanding of the enabling conditions that facilitate their successful delivery from the perspective of local communities. This study examines community perceptions of the enabling conditions that support the implementation of ALPs around Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. Data were collected from households adjacent to the park and analyzed using descriptive statistics and cumulative link mixed models with ordinal regression, complemented by qualitative responses to provide contextual insights. All analyses were conducted in R with cumulative link mixed models fit using the library `ordinal`. Results indicate community respondents found sustained financial support, equitable benefit-sharing, effective communication, local facilitation, and capacity development to be important enabling conditions for the successful implementation of ALPs. In contrast, strategic partnerships and linkages with private-sector value-chain actors were perceived less favorably, suggesting the need to strengthen these components to enhance the long-term sustainability of conservation-compatible livelihoods. Participation in ALPs was associated with more positive perceptions of enabling conditions, particularly regarding the role of local facilitators and value-chain linkages that help with local monitoring of activities and the significance of value-chain linkages to potential markets for the products, highlighting the influence of direct project experience on community …
