Kenya legal research skill # Kenya Case Law Research — a Claude Skill This is a **Skill** for Claude (Anthropic's AI assistant). A Skill is a small set of written instructions that tells Claude how to do a specific job well — in this case, researching Kenyan case law properly: finding precedents from the Supreme Court down to the High Court, working out which ones are actually binding, checking they haven't been overturned, and answering with real citations from Kenya Law (the National Council for Law Reporting, Kenya's official case-law database). Without this skill, an AI asked "what's the legal position in Kenya on X" is liable to answer from general memory, which can be outdated or simply wrong about which court decided what. With it, Claude is instructed to search Kenya Law directly, read the actual judgments, and reason about them the way a Kenyan lawyer would — respecting the court hierarchy instead of treating every case as equally authoritative. ## What's in this repository - **`SKILL.md`** — the main instructions Claude reads and follows. - **`references/court-hierarchy.md`** — Kenya's court structure and the binding rules of precedent (which courts bind which, and how to handle conflicting decisions). - **`references/citation-guide.md`** — how Kenyan case citations are formatted, and how to build a direct link to a judgment on Kenya Law. ## How to use it - **Claude.ai / Claude apps** — upload this folder (or the SKILL.md and references folder together) wherever your Claude interface lets you add a Skill or a Project's custom instructions. - **Claude Code** — copy this folder into your skills directory so Claude picks it up automatically when you ask a Kenyan case-law question. ## A note on scope This skill helps Claude research and summarise published Kenyan case law — it does not turn Claude into a lawyer.
