Algeria's 69 wilayas and 1541 communes - loi n° 26-06 / JO n° 25 (2026). Post codes, Arabic and Latin names, coordinates. JSON, CSV, SQL. الجزائر ولايات بلديات # Algeria - 69 wilayas and 1541 communes Algérie · الجزائر - the **69 wilayas** (ولايات) and **1541 communes** (بلديات) of Algeria, with post codes, daïras (دوائر), Latin and Arabic names, and coordinates. Division fixed by **loi n° 26-06 du 4 avril 2026**, published in the **Journal Officiel n° 25 du 5 avril 2026**: > « Art. 3. - Le nouveau découpage territorial du pays comprend soixante-neuf (69) wilayas et mille cinq cent quarante-et-une (1541) communes. » Each commune is attached to the wilaya the law gives it: the commune count of **every one of the 69 wilayas** matches the Journal Officiel, and the build fails if that ever stops being true. JSON, CSV, XML, GeoJSON, and ready-to-run SQL for MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server. ## Why another dataset Several good open datasets of Algerian communes exist, and this one is built from them. They were all published before or around loi n° 26-06, and each carries one of two errors that are easy to inherit and hard to notice, because **the totals look right**: 69 wilayas, 1541 communes, correct in every case. The error is in the assignment. **Error 1 - the eleven wilayas created in 2026 are numbered in the wrong order.** The codes are fixed by art. 52 bis 10 to 52 bis 20: | code | Journal Officiel | commonly published | |---|---|---| | 60 | Barika | El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh | | 61 | El Kantara | El Aricha | | 62 | Bir El Ater | El Kantara | | 63 | El Aricha | Barika | | 64 | Ksar Chellala | Bou Saâda | | 65 | Aïn Ouessara | Bir El Ater | | 66 | Messaad | Ksar El Boukhari | | 67 | Ksar El Boukhari | Ksar Chellala | | 68 | Bou Saâda | Aïn Oussera | | 69 | El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh | Messaad | Only code 59, Aflou, is common to both. The commune counts confirm it independently: a dataset with 23 communes under code 64 has put Bou Saâda there, and Bou Saâda is code 68. This numbering travels. **Five independent datasets carry the identical set of ten deviations**, down to the exact counts: ``` w60 8->7 w61 5->4 w62 4- …
