## African Crisis Analysis Report Welcome to the African Crisis Analysis Report repository. This project explores the historical patterns of political, economic, and social crises across African nations. Using structured data queries in MySQL, organized datasets, and visual storytelling in Power BI, it reveals how crises have evolved over time offering valuable insight for researchers, policymakers, and development analysts. ## Project Summary This project simulates the type of analysis a political scientist, policy researcher, or business intelligence analyst might perform when assessing regional stability. By working with a dataset covering crisis events from 1860 to 2014 in selected African countries, it investigates: - Which countries have experienced the most crises over time - The intensity and duration of each crisis - Trends in crisis occurrence and onset year by country - Proportional breakdown of high and low intensity events - How countries compare in terms of crisis frequency and impact The final deliverables include an interactive Power BI dashboard and a set of reusable SQL queries that highlight country-specific crisis patterns and trends. ## Objective To clean, analyze, and visualize crisis-related data from African countries in order to derive historical insights and comparative metrics using Excel, MySQL Workbench, and Power BI. ## Chapters ## Chapter 1: Data Preparation & Cleaning (Excel) - Fixed inconsistencies in country names and date formatting - Standardized crisis intensity, duration, and magnitude units - Removed duplicates and prepared structured data for SQL import ## Chapter 2: Crisis SQL Queries (MySQL Workbench) - Performed key analytical queries such as: - Total crisis events per country - First recorded crisis year by country - Proportion of high vs. low-intensity crises - Average crisis magnitude and duration by region - Top countries with the highest crisis proportions ## Key SQL Concepts Used: SELECT, GROUP BY, …
