Applications Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) Data for Eastern and Southern Africa # Introduction This work aims to review the NCA data produced for Eastern and Southern Africa and prepare relevant applications that can inform current World Bank priorities and the usability of the data for planning and policy. We conducted a review and comparative analysis of the most recent natural capital accounts (from 2015 onward) prepared by countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia, and others (if available). The accounts cover ecosystem services, energy, forests, land, water, minerals and any other available accounts for the countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. This work also consists of preparing applications with the NCA data that can inform the World Bank's current priorities in Eastern and Southern Africa in areas such as energy access, sustainable management of water resources and their contribution to key economic sectors, the contribution of the forest sector to the economy, job creation, among others. The specific tasks and deliverables will include: ## Deliverable 1: Diagnostic Review and Analytical Opportunities A technical note (10–15 pages) summarizing the methodological quality and alignment of natural capital accounts (NCAs) for the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia and other countries in Eastern and Southern Africa (if available). 1. Conduct a review of the most recent NCA reports and associated data files (e.g., Excel spreadsheets) for the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and any other Eastern and Southern African countries with available published accounts.
