EPS Team – Tafiti 3U Nanosatellite, Kenya Space Agency. I Led the Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) team in the design and development of the EPS for Tafiti, a student-driven satellite mission. The team brought together multidisciplinary students from multiple universities, collaborating to achieve mission-specific power system objectives. # Tafiti 3U Nanosatellite: Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) ## Project Overview The **Tafiti 3U Nanosatellite** is a student-driven mission supported by the **Kenya Space Agency (KSA)**. This repository houses the design and firmware for the **Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS)**, the critical infrastructure responsible for harvesting, storing, and distributing power to all satellite subsystems. This project is a collaborative effort bringing together multidisciplinary students from four Kenyan universities to achieve high-reliability power management in a LEO (Low Earth Orbit) environment. --- ## Technical Architecture The EPS utilizes a **Centralized Architecture** centered around an Arduino-based microcontroller. This design manages the power flow from solar panels to the battery bus and regulated rails. ### Key Features: * **Microcontroller:** Arduino-based control logic for telemetry and switching. * **Sensing:** Integrated Voltage and Current sensors for real-time power monitoring (Telemetry). * **Protection:** Hardware-level switches and overcurrent protection to safeguard the satellite bus. * **Regulation:** Dedicated power rails for 3.3V, 5V, and 12V subsystems. ## Design Iterations * **Version 1 (Current in Repo):** Developed using **KiCAD**. This version established the fundamental centralized architecture and sensor integration. * **Subsequent Versions:** Iterated on the **EasyEDA** platform to optimize footprint, thermal dissipation, and component availability. *Note: For access to EasyEDA live projects, please contact the lead maintainer.* ## Collaborative Framework This is a multi-institutional project. The EPS team collaborates closely with other subsystem teams: 1. **ADCS** (Attitude Determination and Control) 2. **OBC** (On-Board Computer) 3. **COMMS** (Communications) 4. **Payload** ### Participating Institutions * The UoN * JKuat * TuK * KU ## License & Attribution This project is developed under the auspices of the **Kenya Space …
