Ethiopian version of Truecaller which will show the real issuer name of the phone number from ethiotelecom. # RealCaller An Android app that looks up the registered name behind an Ethio Telecom mobile number, on the device. Lookups stay local: numbers are not uploaded. RealCaller is a prototype built for personal use. It automates a carrier USSD menu through Android's Accessibility Service so the user only sees a search overlay and the result. ## What it does - Enter a number (`09xxxxxxxx` or `+2519xxxxxxxx`) and search - Shows the registered name when the number is on telebirr, or **No name found** - Optional live caller ID: if that number calls you later and is **not** in your contacts, a banner can show the cached name - Unknown callers are listed in the app for one-tap lookup ## What it does not do - No PIN is entered - No payment or transfer is sent - No backend, analytics, or accounts - Saved contacts always win over a cached lookup name ## How it outsmarts Truecaller? Truecaller shows a name that someone in its network saved for that number, or the name a person used when they opened a Truecaller account. That can be a nickname, a business label, or a name that is simply wrong. RealCaller does not use a crowd-sourced contact book. It asks Ethio Telecom, on the device, through the carrier USSD menu (`*127#`). The result is the registered issuer name on telebirr / Ethio Telecom for that number — or **No name found** if the carrier has none. Lookups stay on the phone. Numbers are not uploaded to RealCaller or to a third-party name database. ## Allowing the Accessibility Service Search only works if **RealCaller Lookup** is turned on as an Accessibility Service. Android often treats that as sensitive, especially for an app installed outside Play Store. Two things commonly get in the way: 1. **Restricted settings.** After you install the APK, Android may hide or block Accessibility for this app. Open **Settings → Apps → RealCaller**, open the overflow menu, and tap **Allow restricted settings**.
