GIS analysis of urban service distribution, service gaps, and ward-level priority intervention areas in Nairobi, Kenya. # Nairobi Urban Inequality and Service Gap Analysis ## Project Overview This project analyzes urban service inequality in Nairobi, Kenya using GIS. The analysis maps the distribution of schools, health facilities, roads, and mapped water points across Nairobi wards. It also identifies ward-level service gaps and classifies priority areas for possible urban service intervention. The project was developed as a professional GIS portfolio project with an NGO-style decision-support focus. It demonstrates how spatial data can support urban planning, service delivery assessment, resource allocation, and humanitarian information management. ## Objectives - Map the spatial distribution of key urban services in Nairobi. - Calculate ward-level service availability using mapped service counts. - Identify wards with possible service gaps. - Classify wards into priority levels for urban service intervention. - Produce professional map outputs for reporting and portfolio presentation. - Organize project files using a professional GIS delivery standard. ## Study Area The study area is Nairobi, Kenya. Nairobi was analyzed at ward level to show differences in mapped service availability across local administrative areas. ## Data Sources The project used open and humanitarian GIS data sources, including: - HDX/HOTOSM - OpenStreetMap - WPdx - Kenya Ward Boundaries ## Software Used - ArcMap 10.8 ## Coordinate System - Coordinate System: WGS 1984 UTM Zone 37S - EPSG Code: EPSG:32737 - Datum: WGS 1984 ## Methods The main GIS methods used in this project included: - Data cleaning and preparation - Projection correction - Clipping datasets to Nairobi - Spatial joins to count services by ward - Field calculations for service availability and service gap scores - Ward-level priority classification - Map layout design and export ## Final Map Outputs The project produced five final maps: 1.
