Group antenatal and postnatal care in Rwanda: model fidelity monitoring data

For a cluster randomized controlled trial of the effect of group antenatal care on perinatal outcomes in Rwanda, a Technical Working Group customized the group care model for implementation in this context. Group antenatal and postnatal care were implemented in 18 Rwandan health centers during the study period June 1, 2017 to January 31, 2019. We used two discreet questionnaires to collect data from two groups about the fidelity with which the group antenatal care model was implemented during this period. Group care facilitators, including nurses, midwives, and community health workers, recorded descriptive data about each visit and self-assessed process fidelity with a series of yes/no checkboxes. Master Trainers assessed process fidelity with an 11-item tool using a 5-point scale of 0 (worst) to 4 (best). 140 Model Fidelity Assessment questionnaires were completed by Master Trainers during supervision visits. 2763 Group Visit Debrief questionnaires were completed by the nurses, midwives, and community health workers who facilitated each group visit.  Two questionnaires, the Model Fidelity Assessment and the Group Visit Debrief questionnaires, were completed by participants either on paper or on a mobile device (tablet) on immediately after the group antenatal or postnatal care visit. Data abstracted from paper questionnaires or entered directly into the tablet were stored in REDCap, an electronic data capture platform that was hosted at the University of California, San Francisco. Data were then downloaded from REDCap and cleaned. Empty data set rows were deleted. Free text answers in Kinyarwanda, the local language, have not been translated.  Some data are missing. Missing data represent answers that were not provided by participants at the time the questionnaire was completed or at the time a study staff member abstracted paper questionnaire data to the electronic data capture platform.
