The High Confidence Forest Disturbance (HCFD) dataset provides pixel-level information on the location and year of high-confidence forest disturbance in the Congo Basin, between 2001 and 2022, at 30m spatial resolution. It was created by combining the "Forest Loss Year" layer from the Global Forest Change (GFC) dataset (Hansen et al., 2013) with the "Deforestation" or "Degradation" layer from the Tropical Moist Forest (TMF) dataset (Vancutsem et al., 2021). The pixels from GFC and TMF were combined such that the selected pixel showed loss in GFC and either deforestation (TMF-Def) or degradation (TMF-Deg) from the TMF dataset within 3 years of each other. The earliest year of loss detection among the datasets was assigned as the year of loss in the HCFD. The pixel values range from 2001 to 2022, denoting the year of high confidence forest disturbance. The dataset spans the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea.
