Impact of Certified Seed Potato on Farm Household Welfare — Kisima Farm Study, Kenya 2013/2014

This dataset contains primary survey data collected as part of a study on the impact of certified potato seed produced and distributed by Kisima Farm on farm household welfare in Kenya. The study evaluated whether access to certified seed — compared to local/saved seed — improved agricultural productivity, income, food security, and gender equity outcomes among smallholder potato farmers. Data were collected across two geographic zones in Kenya, covering two dimensions: Household-level survey: 408 farm households were interviewed on farm assets, land holdings, input use, labor allocation, production, sales, income diversification, social capital, variety knowledge, credit access, food security, and seed management practices. A sub-sample of 122 households (Part B) responded to gender-disaggregated questions separately for male and female household members. Village-level survey: 34 villages were surveyed on market access, service infrastructure, seed distribution, price information, climate shocks, and agro-ecological conditions. The questionnaire instrument covered 20 thematic parts for the household survey and 11 parts for the village survey, resulting in 47 SPSS data files with a combined 975 variables.
