Impact of Daylighting and Fenestration on School Building Designs within Slum Communities

This research investigates the influence of daylighting and fenestration on the design of school buildings in the Ilaje community, Lagos State. It explores how natural light and window placement affect visual comfort, thermal performance, and overall student well-being. The research includes data collection from various case studies, analysis of architectural drawings, and compliance with design standards set by the Universal Basic Education Commission of Nigeria (UBE). The study aims to optimize school building designs to enhance educational environments in slum areas, promoting better health, emotions, and academic performance among students. Key design issues such as space size, window orientation, lighting direction, and desk position are analyzed to address visual and thermal quality, and potential problems during critical times and view angles are investigated.
