Abstract: Burkina Faso has experienced a mining boom since 2009, with the number of mining companies increasing from one in 2007 to 17 in 2020. This article investigates the effects of this mining boom on export diversification in Burkina Faso. We employed an Autoregressive Staggered Lag (ARDL) model with data covering the period from 1985 to 2018. Our findings reveal that the mining boom has positive and significant effects on export diversification, both in the short and long term. Thus, policies aimed at enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of the mining sector are likely to further promote export diversification.
