INFLUENCE OF FIELD TRIP IN TEACHING AND LEARNING OF BIOLOGY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN EZINIHITTE MBAISE LGA

This study investigated the influence of field trips on the teaching and learning of Biology among secondary school students in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. Four research questions guided the study, which adopted a descriptive survey design. The sample comprised 436 students, representing ten percent of the total population, selected from eleven government secondary schools using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a sixteen item modified four point rating scale developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by a specialist in Education and Measurement and Evaluation. Mean scores were used for data analysis, with item means ranging from 3.0 to 3.2. Findings revealed that field trips enhance students’ understanding of Biology concepts by providing firsthand experience and practical exposure. Based on the findings, it was recommended that field trips be formally integrated into the school curriculum and that adequate time be allocated within school timetables to facilitate their implementation.
