Influence of Parental Involvement on Infrastructure Development and Provision of Instructional Materials on Economics Students Academic Performance in Tertiary Institutions in Jalingo LGA, Taraba State

This paper investigates the influence of parental involvement in infrastructure development and provision of instructional materials on Economics students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions in jalingo, LGA Taraba state, Nigeria. It employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study is 2,013 Economics students out of which a sample size of 604 respondents will be selected using a multi stage sampling technique. A self-designed 20-items structured questionnaire was developed based on the 4-point rating scale titled: “Influence of parental involvement in infrastructure development and provision of instructional materials on Economics students’ academic performance Questionnaire (IPIIDPIMQ) was used as instrument for data collection. However, the questionnaire was validated by three experts, two from measurement and evaluation and one from Economics at 0.75 validity index, and its reliability of internal consistency was determined using the Cronbach Alpha statistics to yield a reliability coefficient. In addition, Mean, standard deviation and chi-square was used for hypotheses testing at 0.05 level of significance. A criterion means of 2.5 will be used to answer the research questions. Findings reveals that Parents should actively participate in infrastructure development and provision of instructional materials in tertiary institutions through community support, donations, and participation in educational development projects to create conducive learning environments for students.
