Abstract Nigeria's security crisis has escalated into one of the most complex and multidimensional threats facing any African state in the twenty-first century. From the Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgency in the Northeast to armed banditry in the Northwest, herder-farmer conflicts in the Middle Belt, and separatist agitation in the Southeast, the nation faces a convergence of violence that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, displaced millions, and inflicted immeasurable economic damage. This study critically examines two interconnected yet often underappreciated root drivers of Nigeria's persistent insecurity: the weakness of indigenous (human and local) intelligence-gathering mechanisms and the failure of an integrated, coherent national security database management architecture. Drawing on secondary data from peerreviewed journals, government publications, and institutional reports spanning 2002 to 2026, the article demonstrates that effective security outcomes are fundamentally dependent on quality intelligence and robust data infrastructure. It argues that Nigeria's security agencies have repeatedly been ambushed by preventable threats due to fragmented intelligence structures, poor inter-agency information sharing, the absence of a reliable national identity database, under-investment in community-based intelligence networks, and the systemic failure to digitise, harmonise, and protect security-relevant data. The study concludes with policy recommendations for reforming Nigeria's intelligence and database management architecture to achieve sustainable peace and national security.
