Overview

This dataset provides the foundational evidence and analytical scripts for the research manuscript on the socio-technical analysis and Indigenous management of mágùn typologies as venereal syndromes in Okitipupa, southwestern Nigeria. It bridges qualitative ethnoclinical observations with quantitative ethnobotanical analysis and computational modelling to map the "preventive architecture" and "deterministic actuation" logic of the mágùn complex within the Ìkálẹ̀ (Yorùbá) medical landscape.

Methodological framework

The data was generated through a cross-sectional ethnobotanical survey in Okitipupa LGA, Nigeria. A two-tier purposive sampling design was employed, involving thematic analysis of a broad practitioner cohort (n=21) and detailed ethnoclinical documentation from a specialised subset of primary custodians (n=9).
Dataset Components

The repository consists of four core files representing the integration of Indigenous knowledge and modern data science:

  1. Ethnomed_Ethnobotanical_Visualisations.ipynb: a reproducible Python-based (Google Colab) notebook used for data cleansing, statistical aggregation, and the generation of high-resolution ethnobotanical and thematic visualisations.
  2. Ethnomed_Nodes&CaseClassification_CrossTabulation2.xlsx: a cross-tabulation dataset linking practitioner demographics (age, experience, education) with primary thematic nodes, including knowledge transmission gradients and Ifá-guided diagnostic heuristics.
  3. Ethnomed_PrepMethod&AdminModeRelationship_MatrixCodingQuery.xlsx: a matrix coding export illustrating the correlation between traditional preparation methods and administration routes.
  4. Ethnomed_UseReport(PartsUsed)ofPlantSpecies_MatrixCodingQuery.xlsx: a quantitative record of use reports for the identified 10 plant species, stratified by plant organ (leaf, seed, fruit, etc.) used in the management of mágùn, tẹ́ṣọ̀ọ́, and ẹ̀dà.
