To address the growing climate challenges and energy insecurity in sub-Saharan Africa, Cameroon is exploring innovative approaches to adapt its housing stock. This article proposes an integrated model for eco-renovation of urban and periurban dwellings, combining local techniques, bio-based materials, and passive bioclimatic solutions. The study, conducted in Cameroonian cities across the Sudano-Sahelian zone, the Western Grassfields, and the Centre-South region, tested low-carbon devices such as stabilized compressed earth blocks (CEB), green roofs, natural ventilation, and reflective paints. Results show a significant improvement in thermal comfort (up to a 6°C reduction in indoor temperature) and an average 35% reduction in domestic energy costs. The participatory approach enhanced social acceptability and community ownership of the projects. This model, which aligns with strategies for improving existing buildings, supports climate resilience, sustainable urban adaptation, and the reduction of inequalities in access to healthy housing.
