Digital transformation is reshaping access to psychosocial and spiritual support across Africa, creating new possibilities for pastoral counselling. As socio-economic pressures and mental-health challenges intensify, traditional face-to-face counselling models increasingly struggle to meet the needs of digitally connected populations. This study examines how digital technologies are integrated into pastoral counselling and how such integration contributes to human development within African church contexts. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model and Transformational Leadership Theory, the study adopts a mixed-methods approach. Qualitative insights are drawn from documented church practices and empirical literature in Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria. The quantitative component is based on survey data from 150 pastors, Christian counsellors, and church administrators in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States, Nigeria (50 per state), assessing digital tool usage, digital literacy, leadership support, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and barriers to adoption. Findings show that digital platforms such as virtual counselling tools, social media, mobile applications, and messaging services enhance accessibility, confidentiality, continuity of care, and youth engagement. However, adoption remains constrained by limited digital skills, infrastructural challenges, ethical concerns, and cultural perceptions. The study argues that sustainable digital pastoral counselling requires context-sensitive, ethically grounded, and leadership-supported frameworks to promote holistic human development in Africa.
