This project explores the burden, causes, and consequences of dizziness and vertigo among adolescents and the elderly in rural Northern Nigeria. It adopts a mixed-methods approach to determine prevalence, identify risk factors, and evaluate current care practices. The project will design and implement a tailored training program to build the capacity of rural community health workers in the diagnosis and management of vestibular disorders. Through clinical assessments, surveys, interviews, and follow-up evaluations, the project aims to improve early recognition of vertigo, reduce disability and falls, and enhance the quality of care and life in underserved communities. The outcomes will include scientific publications, clinical toolkits, and policy briefs aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s rural health system and informing global strategies for dizziness care in low-resource settings.
