kaza_1 Placing the Dead and Nurturing the Living: Documentation of house- construction and terrace farming in Zargulla, an endangered Omotic language

The clip shows Asmelash hosting a group of people (neighbours, relatives) for k’aza, a get-together of protestant Christians in someone’s house to pray as well as to thank God for various circumstances affecting the host family. In this case it is to express thanks for the improvement in the health of Asmelash’s wife and to pray for the betterment of Asmelash’s father. Mr Achire Adere opens the k’aza. He alternates between Amharic and Zargulla as he makes his speech (at times passionate). The audience react in various ways: injecting short utterances of agreement, singing, etc. Then Mr Asmelalsh Michael and his wife take the floor, followed by Ms Dink’nesh Goba, Mr Amare Bulo (speaks in Gamo) and Mr Amare Zante (speaks in Zargulla) in that order.
