Abstract This chapter describes the Kistane language. It discusses similar morphological features of Kistane and Gunnän Gurage languages. The major morphological processes in Kistane are deletion, insertion, assimilation, and palatalization. Nouns inflect for gender, number, definiteness and case, and are derived through templates, affixation, relativization, and compounding. Verbal morphology involves triconsonantal roots bearing the lexical semantics of a verb and a vowel pattern. Kistane also has a set of morphemes suffixed to affirmative indicative verbs in the main clause.
