La Contribution des Radios Communautaires dans la Revitalisation des Langues Nationales au Cameroun

In 1996, Cameroon officially turned away from the colonial policy muzzling its national languages to embark on their protection and promotion. In the meantime, its media environment was experiencing a profound mutation with the emergence of community radio stations. These radio stations will make great use of national languages which, endangered, were already in search for new vitality brands. What could be the contribution of community radio stations to the revitalization of such languages? Searching for an answer to this question, we relied on an eclectic approach associating documentary research with a data collection based on listening programs and community radios personnel surveys. My analysis which starts with definitions of some terms and a short glimpse of the situation of community radio stations and Cameroonian languages enables to understand that community radio stations contribute to the revitalization of national languages trough their promotion, their modernization and their standardization.
