Land Use and Land Cover 2024 of Tarkwa (Western Region, Ghana)

This repository includes the land use and land cover (LULC) map of Tarkwa and surroundings (Western Region, Ghana). The following LULC classes are represented:

• Tropical rainforest
• Bamboo
• Swamp forest / Gallery forest
• Shrub fallow
• Herbaceous fallow
• Cocoa
• Rubber plantation
• Oil palm plantation
• Food crop
• Built-up area
• Bare soil / Road
• Mining
• Waterbody

The map was produced through a supervised classification using the Random Forests algorithm (Breiman, 2001). Cloud-free surface reflectance spectral bands from Sentinel 2 and PlanetScope monthly composite basemaps were used as input data, and independent training and validation datasets were generated based on in situ data and photo-interpretation.
