Late Holocene paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes recorded in a sediment core from Sidi Ali El Mekki lagoon (northeast Tunisia)

This dataset includes foraminiferal, grain size, and XRF geochemical data from the sediment core GEMP1 collected in the Sidi Ali El Mekki lagoon (northeast Tunisia). The study reconstructs the environmental evolution of this lagoon over the past ~1550 years. The results reveal a succession of major environmental shifts, likely driven by a complex interplay between climatic forcing and naturally and human-induced modifications to the sedimentary environment. Around ~1690 AD, a fundamental reorganization occurred, marking a transition from an open marine bay toward a more confined environment.
