This lesson summarizes insights gained from designing and testing a low-cost Internet of Things (IoT) prototype to improve fish-farming practices in Egypt. Traditional fish farms in Egypt still rely heavily on manual monitoring of water quality and feeding. Using an ESP32 microcontroller with water-quality sensors, I built a small-scale prototype to automate data collection and control. The experiment demonstrated that IoT monitoring can reduce labor and improve efficiency compared to manual methods. Key lessons include hardware selection for humid environments, wireless data transmission reliability, and opportunities for scaling the system for commercial farms.
