Lexical borrowings in Cigogo (G11): semantic domains, sources, nativisation strategies

In my talk I’ll start with the more recent lexical borrowings from Swahili and English (overview of existing papers) and make a step back in time while extracting evidence of linguistic contact between Cigogo and other (non-)Bantu languages from the ethnographic sketch “Die Wagogo: Etnographische Skizze eines ostafrikanischen Bantustammes” written by colonial administrator Claus Heinrig at the beginning of the 20th century. -Note: This talk has not gone through a process of peer review, and findings should therefore be treated as preliminary and subject to change. -Acknowledgement and citation: Beletskiy, Stanislav. 2024.
