Abstract: Nigeria is faced with many challenges, encompassing politics, religion, leadership, economy, governance, education, ethnic clashes, and insecurity, among others. Insecurity resulting from banditry, terrorism, Boko Haram activities, kidnapping, etc have taken over our communities in the Northern part of the country. Information and communication are basic needs that are central in the life of human beings in society. They are the major pillars for the development of humanity and the nation in general; hence, they influence almost all spheres of life and human endeavour, and have also become the centrality of reflecting on both the past and current realities. This paper highlighted the importance and vital roles libraries and information centres play in the quest to foster the peaceful co-existence of the people in the nation and enhance societal growth and development. The paper applied a literature review design to examine the role of libraries and information centres as an inevitable existence for peaceful coexistence. The paper discovered that information is essential for peaceful coexistence, and through the library, useful knowledge and information for survival can be gained. The paper concludes by asserting that effective management of information, consistent support, and equipping libraries with resources, proffering a lasting solution to the inelastic library budget, will in great measure promote healthy service delivery. The paper recommends equipping the library with necessary facilities, qualified personnel, and other materials for effective service delivery.Keywords: library, information, peaceful coexistence.
