This is a comprehensive collection of domestic LPG supply chain nodes in Sub-Saharan Africa. The supply chain comprises ports, land borders, refineries, natural gas processing plants, primary storage facilities (provided in LPG_supply_points.gpkg) and, for Nigeria only, filling plants and reseller points (provided in LPG_filling_reseller_NGA.gpkg).
This layer is designed as an input for the supply chain model developed by our team to construct an improved LPG cost structure for OnStove, which is a geospatial tool for the evaluation of clean cooking access developed by the Division of Energy Systems of KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
For ports, borders, refineries, processing plants, and primary storage sites, the locations are derived by cross-referencing multiple sources. For Nigerian filling and reseller points, the source is the Google Maps API, followed by filtering or manual validation. Beyond precise locations, the dataset includes facility-specific attributes, depending on the layer, such as facility name, company, and/or various proxies to estimate LPG production capacity or transit volume. Sources and description for the available attributes of each layer are stored in LPG_layers_explained.pdf.
