This study assessed solid waste management practices and their impact on human health in selected wards of Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The study aimed to identify types and sources of solid waste, investigate management practices adopted, assess public health impacts, and evaluate residents' awareness and participation. A descriptive-analytical research design was adopted. The population comprised 557 households from three wards; 233 respondents were sampled using Taro Yamane's formula and multi-stage sampling, yielding 214 valid responses (91.8%). Data were collected through structured questionnaires, field observations, and key informant interviews. Soil and water samples from dumpsites were analysed for physicochemical and heavy metal parameters. Validity and reliability were ensured through expert review and Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.814). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, one-way ANOVA, and Welch ANOVA with SPSS v27. Findings revealed that organic waste constitutes over 50% of waste generated; 81.3% of respondents reported improper disposal; 83.2% linked poor waste management to water-borne diseases. Soil cadmium (4.57 mg/kg) and lead (124.00 mg/kg) were elevated near dumpsites. Water near dumpsites showed significantly higher TDS (643.75 mg/L), BOD (19.09 mg/L), and lead (0.113 mg/L). Awareness significantly correlated with participation (r = 0.689, p < 0.001). The study recommends improved waste collection, enforcement of regulations, waste segregation, composting, and sustained public awareness campaigns.
