<div> Who Controls the Machine That Knows Everything About Us? </div>

We tell artificial intelligence more than we sometimes realise. We bring it our questions, unfinished ideas, business strategies, research, legal problems and personal concerns. Some people now tell AI things they may hesitate to tell another human being. This raises a question that deserves more attention: what happens to all that information, and who ultimately controls it? This paper examines the growing relationship between artificial intelligence, human knowledge, privacy and power. It considers the information people voluntarily give to AI systems, the meaning of consent, the treatment of sensitive and confidential information, professional responsibility, intellectual property, data governance and the increasing concentration of information within technological systems. The paper does not argue against artificial intelligence. AI has become an important part of modern life and has enormous potential to improve human work. The concern is different. People should understand what happens to the information they provide, what rights they retain over it, and what safeguards exist against misuse. The paper argues for four principles: the right to know, the right to choose, the right to protection, and the right to participate in the value created from human knowledge. It also considers Africa's place in this conversation. If African languages, knowledge, experiences and data contribute to the development of the global AI economy, Africa should not remain merely a consumer of systems designed and controlled elsewhere. The question, therefore, is no longer simply what artificial intelligence can know.
