This folder contains raw and anonymised datasets collected as part of the “Majority versus Minority: Experiences of Black Female PhD Candidates in South Africa and the Netherlands” research project. The project is funded by the NRF–Nuffic Partnership (UID 131853).
The research examines how self-identified Black and female identities—shaped by both self-claimed and socially imposed understandings of race and gender—interact with social power structures to influence the doctoral journeys of Black women.
Data were collected between 01 October 2022 and 30 March 2024 in South Africa and the Netherlands. The dataset includes interview recordings, photovoice submissions, raw transcripts, cleaned and pseudonymised transcripts, and coded files processed using ATLAS.ti. All personal identifiers have been removed according to ethical research and data protection guidelines.
