This study investigated the management of performance appraisal for improving lecturers’ productivity in public universities in Delta State, Nigeria. The purpose of the study was to ascertain how the critical incident method, graphic rating scale, and essay method of performance appraisal are managed to improve lecturers’ productivity in public universities in Delta State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study comprised all the lecturers in public universities in Delta State and the sample size was 351. A structured questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The instrument was validated through face and content validation, while a reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while the z-test was used to test the hypotheses. The study concluded that significant relationships exist between the critical incident method, graphic rating scale, essay method of performance appraisal, and lecturers’ productivity. The study concluded that significant relationships exist between performance appraisal, and lecturers’ productivity. The study recommended that the government should provide adequate funding for universities to enable them to effectively implement performance appraisal methods in assessing lecturers’ performance across teaching, research, and community service activities.
