Mapping digital and multi-omics evidence on stress and cardiometabolic health trajectories among women in Sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review protocol

This scoping review aims to map the available evidence on stress and cardiometabolic health trajectories among women in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) using digital health, biomarker, and multi-omics approaches. The review will examine how psychosocial, biologic, environmental, physiologic, and reproductive stressors are measured and linked to cardiometabolic outcomes such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, pregnancy-related cardiometabolic conditions, and cardiovascular disease. The review will assess the use and integration of digital tools (e.g., wearables, mobile health, remote monitoring), biomarkers, and multi-omics methods including genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and epigenomics. It will also identify methodological, geographic, and life-course gaps in the literature. The review will follow Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and PRISMA-ScR reporting guidelines. Findings will help inform future longitudinal and precision cardiometabolic research among women in SSA.
