His mother tongue is Ahou Gelao and he is now one of the few people who can still speaks the language fluently and still uses it in daily communication, as his wife is also a Ahou Gelao native speaker, so they two speaks Gelao to each other, though they seldom use it in front of their children or grandchildren. He also speaks the local dialect of Chinese well, the dominant language in the region. Mr. Wang is a religious master of the Gelao people and is now the only one who can chair religious rituals in Gelao language. He can recall a wealth of religous recitations and chantings which were learned from his father. So Mr. Wang is also an ideal informant.
