Mental health challenges among nursing students are a growing global concern. These challenges include stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, and psychological distress, often linked to demanding academic workloads, clinical training pressures, and emotional exposure to patient care. In South Africa, these concerns are compounded by contextual factors such as socio-economic inequality, limited resources, and overburdened healthcare systems. The Eastern Cape Province, largely rural and under-resourced, presents additional structural and environmental challenges that may negatively impact student well-being. Despite existing studies on student mental health in South Africa, there is limited synthesis of evidence focusing specifically on nursing students in the Eastern Cape. A scoping review is therefore necessary to map the available literature and identify gaps.
