Microbial waste conversion and comparative biogas production from the rumen content of cow and the intestinal waste content of pigs was investigated. Freshly killed cow rumen content was collected from the cow slaughtering section of Odo-Eran market, Abeokuta Ogun state. Also, a day"s fresh pig"s stomach content was collected from Abule Elelede, Okegigbo, Abeokuta. Physico-chemical and microbiological analysis of the animal wastes were carried out. The constituent of the produced biogas were determined out using the method applied by the Energy Research Centre, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto. The bacterial isolates were Staphylococcus aereus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Baciilus megaterium, Citrobacter aerogenes, Clostridium sp., Enterobacter spp., Campylobacter spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The fungi isolated were Candida krusei, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Mucor mucedo, Penicillium notatum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Trichosporon spp. and Blastoschizomyces spp. The pH range of the cow and pig waste for 28 days were 6.46-7.55 and 6.98-7.44 respectively. The organic carbon, calcium, nitrogen, potassium and magnesium content of the animal waste decreased with time. Cow waste produced comparatively higher volume of gas (4730.55 cm 3 ) than the pig waste which produced 4327.65 cm 3 . Generation of biogas from animal waste reduces pollution and creates an alternative energy source.
