
This independent exploratory research paper investigates learner engagement with educational resources in an under-resourced school environment, using survey data collected from 112 learners at Barnato Park High School in Johannesburg. The study examines the gap between learner interest and actual resource usage, especially in relation to the school library, science laboratories, language lab, teacher training, and extracurricular opportunities.
The paper applies quantum probability as a preliminary modelling framework for understanding how motivation, access, resource quality, and structural constraints may interact before engagement is observed. It also connects the problem to quantum game theory by interpreting school resource distribution as a strategic interaction involving learners, teachers, school leadership, government, and external organisations.
The model is exploratory and based on aggregate survey results from one school. The paper is intended as a preprint-style research output and a foundation for future work using anonymised individual-level data, additional schools, interviews, and more formal mathematical estimation.
