This essay offers a personal reflection on my experience during the formative years of Art Therapy in South Africa. It does not attempt to speak for others, nor does it encompass the multitude of experiences and perspectives present at the time. Instead, the focus is on my own journey and the evolution of Art Therapy practice and training, as captured in numerous publications over the years (Berman, 2005,2011,2016,2017.2022). These writings chart the development of my approach and the unfolding history of the discipline.
