Women journalists in Ghana navigate a precarious professional environment marked by job insecurity, prolonged unpaid labor, and systemic gender discrimination within a patriarchal society. This study, based on in-depth qualitative interviews with 27 journalists, explores how precarious employment conditions shape their careers and personal lives. Ghanaian women face increased workplace exploitation, harassment, and career stagnation under weak labor protections. This study contributes to broader discussions on journalism precarity in the Global South, highlighting the need for locally grounded perspectives that reflect the unique sociopolitical and economic realities shaping women’s experiences in media.
