Initiated by Madagascar Initiatives for Digital Innovation (MAIDI), Openstat Madagascar was launched in June 2018. Currently it is the first Open Data Platform by Civil Society in Madagascar. The platform aims to prove the possibility of "Openness" in a country without an Open Data Charter through collecting data in a creative manner and publishing it under a Creative Commons License. It has become a symbolic platform for Open Data Advocacy in Madagascar and in French African Speaking countries Open Data Network (CAFDO) from which local Civil Society is establishing partnerships with other entities toward an "Open Government" as a long term goal.
