The performance of SMEs continues to be a major interest for researchers and practitioners. Research in corporate entrepreneurship and strategic management emerge the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as a determinant of performance (Covin and Wales, 2012, Gupta and Batra, 2016). The works that concentrated solely on this factor has mobilized the universal approach to this effect, reflecting a direct and linear causal link. However, it appears that the EO will be effective only by taking into account its internal and external context. For this reason, looking at multidimensional approaches seems to be more appropriate. Thus the configurational approach provides a better understanding of the link between EO and performance (Miller, 1983, 2011, Randerson et al., 2014, Shirokova et al., 2016). According to this approach, the multiple contextual dimensions adjust (Doty et al., 1993; Ketchen et al., 1993; Miller, 1996) to form configurations with EO that better explain the differences in performance levels achieved by firms (Ketchen et al., 1993). The aim of this doctoral work is to explain the heterogeneity of the performance levels achieved by Tunisian industrial SMEs by the mobilizing of configurational approach (Miller, 1983, 2011). In order to do this, we have adopted the mixed approach precisely "sequential explanatory design", which consists in carrying out a quantitative survey on a sample of 110 SMEs and then supplementing it with a qualitative explanatory study. The results of this research consist in proposing a taxonomy made up with some environmental and organizational configurations that provide the optimum situation for the adoption of an adequate entrepreneurial orientation. These configurations can be considered as possible choices that can maximize performance. p. 233-251
