The recording at the center of this item is a funeral song. Akany, son of Gol Lith was chief of war in Dor Village. Dor is in Panyikango District, between Odong and Nyilwak. Nyilwak is bigger than Dor, so it was a threat to Dor, especially at the time of Chief Amayom of Nyilwak. But under the leadership of Akany, Nyilwak would not dare to offend Dor. When Akany died, the composer, Longo Ojwan went from Nyiyar with this funeral song. Of course many people in Dor did not like the song, because it says that Dor did not find anyone of its sons who would intercept a bad thing (enemy) that may come. But the family of Akany accepted the song, and gave a cow to the composer. The song became popular and spread very fast. This item consists of a recorded Shilluk song (wav file), accompanied with annotation (in Praat TextGrid) and associated information: metadata, permissions and speaker questionnaire. The associated information is also summarized, in a spreadsheet. The TextGrid annotation includes Shilluk orthography, translation, and comments.
